Desktop Communicator is the software developer's edition Desktop Author. It contains all of the same functionality as Desktop Author except that it ships with a Software Development Kit (SDK) which gives software developers the ability to create updateable fields within DNL files that can be automatically updated via the internet. Using these fields it is possible to create individually customisable eBooks within the DNL format with the need of the main editor software.
